Lake Alexandrina Outlet Creek Carpark

The Mackenzie District Council engaged Xyst to scope a redesign of the Lake Alexandrina outlet carpark area, produce a Concept Diagram, and undertake discussions with communities in the area. Key objectives of the plan were to formalise car parking spaces, reduce traffic speed, and isolate pedestrian and camping areas. The plan also needed to protect the adjacent natural environment and create a safe space for birdlife, whilst enhancing amenity for visitors to the area.

Xyst successfully completed a draft plan that encompassed various traffic-calming measures, indicated parking bays and a turning circle to simplify and formalise the intended usage of the space. Added vegetation and feature boulders in strategic locations to slow vehicle movements, ensuring an enjoyable and safe environment for all users and wildlife.

Community engagement began with the circulation of the draft plan to community representatives and the Department of Conservation; community input was then used to further refine the plan. The final Concept Diagram was then presented at a quarterly Lake Alexandrina community meeting for formal discussion before entering procurement.
